  1. CookMapper

  4. CookMapper is a random map making utility for the Macintosh
  5. network game Bolo. The options are fairly self explanatory but
  6. here is a brief description of each.
  7.  
  8. Fragmentation:
  9.     This is the most significant option of CookMapper. Fragmentation
  10. is a measure of the 'roughness' (fractal dimension) of the coast.
  11. I like a setting of about 65 or 70.
  12.  
  13. Total Area:
  14.  Generally I like about 1000 per player.
  15.  
  16. Number of islands:
  17.     Each island gets equal shares of the total area and forest.
  18.  
  19. Number of bases:
  20. Number of pills:
  21. Limited, of course, to 16 by bolo.
  22.  
  23. Island spacing:
  24.     The distance between adjacent islands. A setting of 1 tends to
  25. make the gaps between islands a river. So if you choose a high
  26. fragmentation and lots of islands with spacing 1 you tend to get
  27. a single island with many rivers.

  29. Pillbox placement:
  30.     Totally random:
  31.         Anywhere on land that is not already occupied by a pill/base.
  32.     Protect all bases:
  33.         All bases are within range of at least one pillbox.
  34.     Protect no bases:
  35.         All bases are out of range of all pillboxes.

  37. % Forest:
  38.     The percentage of land which is also forest.
  39.     Clumped:
  40.         The forest is placed such that it is a solid 'forest' of trees on
  41.     each island.
  42.     Scattered:
  43.         The forest is distributed randomly over all the grass squares.

  45. Roads:
  46.     Add roads. Roads are placed to fill 5% of available land.

  48. Boats:
  49.     Add boats randomly around the coast.
  50.  
  51. Show map:
  52.     This gives you the option to conceal the map from view during
  53. creation.
